NEIGHBOURHOOD CONSULTATION – WITH REGARD TO THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE FACILITY ON LAND NEAR COCHNO ROAD EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE G81 5QS

AAH Consultants plan to submit a planning application on behalf of their client Green Power Consultants to the Energy Consent Unit for a battery storage development on the land near Cochno Road and are seeking your feedback on the proposal.  If you wish to give your views they are asking you to submit your comments to info@aahplanningconsultations.co.uk by 22nd August 2023.  Further information regarding this proposal can be found on the AAH website https://aahplanningconsultations.co.uk/battery-drumchapel

AAH are holding a consultation event at Skypoint Centre, Lennox Drive, Faifley on 1st August 2023.  There will be two meetings this day, the first at 11am to 2pm and the second at 4pm to 7pm.  All residents and concerned parties are welcome to attend.

Proposals for Battery Energy Storage Facility near Cochno Road

Knowes HA has concerns over these proposals and the CEO has contacted Provost Douglas McAllister.  Provost McAllister has responded to say that he shares Knowes HA and local residents concerns with regards to this proposal. There are major concerns in relation to the safety of such facilities and the type of fires which they can create. This proposed development will have a significant impact on the residents of the Kilpatrick Ward, Faifley, Hardgate and Duntocher in West Dunbartonshire although the site is in East Dunbartonshire

Because of the nature of the proposal for a major battery energy storage facility, this is determined by the Scottish Government.  The planning application is known as a Section 36 application which is determined by the Energy Consent Unit of the Scottish Government.

Upon Provost McAllister’s request, West Dunbartonshire Council Head of Planning, has contacted the Scottish Government Energy Consent Unit by e-mail on Thursday, 20 July 2023, to insist that we be given the opportunity to submit our representations.  Provost McAllister has asked if we can be consulted by the Energy Consent Unit once they have the application and we have asked the question as to whether or not the application will be decided by a Civil Servant working within the Energy Consent Unit or by a Scottish Government Minister.  We also intend submitting our representations to AAH Consultants after the public event on 1 August 2023.

Provost McAllister is intending to protest to the Scottish Government to ensure that they do not agree to this proposal for Faifley.  He will also contact Scottish Fire & Rescue to ask if we have the capacity at Clydebank to cope with such a major incident should a fire take hold at the battery storage unit given its location and restricted access for vehicles and water supply etc.  Provost McAllister strongly feels that the site proposed is unsuitable.

Knowes HA would ask residents of Faifley to attend the public meetings on 1st August and/or e-mail AAH Consulting and their parliamentary and council representatives to make their views known
