STREETBIKES VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

*Y sort it is in the process of recruiting volunteers who will help us drive forward our ambition to set up “Street Bikes” community bike hub.  Our main target is to engage with young people aged 10-21 years who are interested in bike maintenance and cycling adventures!!

The mains aim of Street Bikes is to achieve the following outcomes…

  • Increasing confidence, skills and opportunities for young people / volunteers who live in areas of deprivation and/or face barriers to learning
  •  Increasing levels of active travel to school/ college / work– which will improve their health and wellbeing and decreases carbon emissions.
  • Decrease wastefulness by recycling bikes and parts, reducing materials which end up in landfills by reusing them for either other bikes or for some other useful purpose
  • Improve knowledge of the benefits of cycling on the wider environment by creating learning opportunities  that encourages active travel and improves health & well being

In short our is aim is to make cycling as accessible and available for young people of all ages and abilities by providing free bike hire, cycling skills sessions and led rides to support a healthy, active lifestyle.   We hope to hold bike maintenance drop in sessions in our youth clubs & groups.

Y sort it has secured a shipping container to be transformed into a Street Bike Station, and have currently working in partnership with Cycleform a local business, to train our current youth workers in basic maintenance. We have also met and affiliated with Cycling UK to help support us with setting up StreetBikes.

However to make to make Street Bikes a success we need volunteers to support the delivery of bike maintenance programme and activities that will help get young people back on their bikes and onto the streets.
