Faifley Community Allotment Society Receive an Award

The Faifley Community Allotment Society has been working in partnership with West Dunbartonshire Council’s Community Involvement in Neighbourhoods Project, which has been going strong since March last year. Sandra Anton, WDC’s Community Litter Control Officer has been facilitating this project and actively engaging with the group to provide advice and assistance required to help develop a sustainable Community Allotment Garden Site at Skypoint in Faifley.
Dedicated volunteers from the group have been working hard to transform the garden site in order to create a thriving Community Garden. They have also been involved in Keep Scotland Beautiful’s ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ Campaign which is about community volunteers taking action to make positive changes to their local neighbourhood.
Through continued support from the community and Knowes Housing Association, the garden provides educational opportunities for the community, local nurseries and schools in line with the Educational Curriculum for Excellence. It also provides a social space where community members can meet to socialise and share skills and experience. This will also help individuals improve their social skills and help with confidence building.
In recognition of the hard work carried out by the Faifley Community Allotment Society, group members, Paul Dunkel and Michael O’Neill attended a recent Awards Seminar in Stirling, which was held by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
At the seminar they were presented with the Royal Horticultural Society and Scotland in Bloom ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ award by George Anderson a presenter on the Beechgrove Garden. The group is delighted with this award it was a great opportunity for them to meet with a television celebrity and other allotment groups within Scotland.
Sandra Anton said “The group has shown great commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year and this award is well deserved. Well done.”
If any members of the local community are interested in gardening and wish to be part of the group please contact West Dunbartonshire Council’s Community Litter control Officer, Sandra Anton on telephone number 01389 772090.
